On Friday (Jan. 5), Kasey Tyndall unveiled an electrifying new single, “Bad For Me,” a track slated to appear on a vulnerable new album set for release via River House Artists later this year. This forthcoming new album will mark her first full length project in six years, following her debut album, Between Salvation And Survival, released in December 2017.

New Kasey Tyndall Song, “Bad For Me”

Produced by Derek Wells and written by Tyndall alongside fellow River House writers Lukas Scott and Knox Morris, “Bad For Me” offers a glimpse into Tyndall’s exploration of her allure toward the “bad-boy” type. In the tune, she candidly sings, “Cuz I’m so messed up, I need someone, who shakes me up but makes me feel alive. If he ain’t a little bad for me, if he ain’t a little rough around the edges, we won’t last a week.”

The tune showcases her ability to flawlessly blend country with angsty rock ‘n roll. “Bad For Me” highlights Tyndall’s artistic evolution and her growth in songwriting and exploration of new sonic landscapes, pushing the limits of modern country music. Its contagious hooks and bold production promise a lasting impression on fans of both country and rock genres.

“I’m stoked to get “Bad For Me” out to the world. It’s about needing somebody as crazy as you are,” Tyndall explained. “The reaction to this song so far has been amazing and shows that many people feel the same way. It also gives a glimpse of what I have coming out in the future.”

In addition to releasing the new song, Tyndall is gearing up to release her most vulnerable project yet and her first new album in six years, which the tune will appear on.

“I haven’t put out an album since 2017. I have lived a lot of life and have written a lot of songs since then. This upcoming project is a reflection of that,” Tyndall added. “I’m so excited for y’all to hear it!”

The song comes after a whirlwind year in 2023 for Tyndall, marked by her Grand Ole Opry debut, the release of her anthemic tune “Dirt Road To Hell,” and inclusion in CMT’s Next Women Of Country Class of 2023. In April, she welcomed her first child and throughout the year she toured alongside Ashley McBryde, Hank Williams Jr., and Old Crow Medicine Show.

Exclusive Interview With Kasey Tyndall

You’re gearing up to release your new single, “Bad For Me,” can you tell us the story behind the song and how it came to be?

“Bad For Me” is about needing someone that’s just as rough around the edges as you are.

The single art for this song features you sort of hugging on a man’s arm, is this your boyfriend’s arm? What inspired the single art, is there a story behind it?

There is a line in the song that says “if he don’t bleed tattoos,” so I borrowed my husband’s arm for the music video.

“Bad For Me” is expected to appear on a new project, which will mark a huge milestone for you as you plan to dive into vulnerability and autobiography like never before. Can you talk about that project and what it means to you?

I haven’t put out an album since 2017. I have lived a lot of life and have written a lot of songs since then. This upcoming project is a reflection of that. I’m so excited for y’all to hear it!

The song follows your rowdy single “Dirt Road To Hell,” that is just such an anthem. Can you talk about how Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood inspired this song?

Growing up listening to Miranda and the edge she brought to the country music table always made me feel like I belonged, and then you sprinkle on Carrie’s “Before He Cheats” and you get “Dirt Road To Hell”.

Can you talk about taking an unapologetic approach to music?

Being yourself is so important. If I can’t lay my head down at night and have peace about what I’m doing and the music I am creating, then it’s just not right. The music I make and release is always who I am at the moment, whether it be musically or lyrically. I’m always so thankful when I can see my music connecting with people.

I really love how you infused country with rock, can you talk about your rock and country influences, and what led you to making this kind of music?

Growing up, my mom always had on Heart, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, and other iconic rock artists. She also listened to a lot of Alison Krauss. My dad always had country radio on in his truck. So naturally the two blended when it comes to my music.

You’ve opened up for the likes of Ashley McBryde, Lainey Wilson and other women who are forces to be reckoned with in the country music genre. Is there anything you’ve learned from these women that you take with you every day and implement into your life or career?

One thing that I’ve learned from them is that hard work and being a good person is what really matters.

You are obviously one of Lainey Wilson’s good friends and part of her “girl squad” and you even at one point were her roommate, what has it been like watching her skyrocketed to the top and even win CMA Entertainer Of The Year?

She is one of the most talented, hardworking artists and songwriters that I know. Her heart makes her shine even more. Watching all of her success is no surprise to me. She’s always been destined for this!

I know you welcomed your first child this past April, how has motherhood been so far and what has it taught you about yourself?

Becoming a mom has been the best thing that’s ever happened to me. It’s so hard to put into words, but this is my favorite version of myself I have ever been. It has taught me how tough I really am.

Can you talk a little bit about balancing motherhood with your career as an artist and songwriter?

It definitely can be challenging at times, but it always seems to work out exactly like it’s supposed to. God has a plan for me and for my daughter, so I can definitely see His hand in helping with the balance.

How has your daughter changed your life and shaped you as an artist?

Everything I do now is for my family, including my artistry. Now I think about what would make her proud of me when I make decisions in my music.

This past summer, you also made your Opry debut, can you tell us what was going through your mind when you stepped into that sacred Opry circle and what that accomplishment meant to you?

Growing up, I used to watch The Grand Ole Opry every Saturday night. I always dreamed of stepping into that circle. When it was finally my time, I could feel all of the blood, sweat, and tears that have gone into my journey to that moment. I was so proud and thankful I could share that with my family and friends that have been there through it all.

Looking back to that 8-year-old little girl in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, did you ever think you would be where you are today?

Honestly, back then, no, but I sure did dream as hard as I could. I was actually going to college to be a nurse before making the move to Nashville. I’m so thankful of where God has brought me and all the lives I have been able to touch with my music.

Can you introduce yourself to our readers and give a little background on your influences and how you got started in country music?

My name is Kasey Tyndall. I am originally from Rocky Mount, North Carolina. I grew up on country and rock n roll from the likes of Joan Jett and Avril Lavigne to Miranda Lambert and Alison Krauss. Furthermore, I played music throughout my childhood, but my dreams became a reality when I won a contest to sing with Keith Urban back in 2015. That led me to move to Nashville and start chasing my dreams.

Can you describe that moment you realized that being a nurse wasn’t for you, and you knew that you wanted to pursue Country music instead?

I grew up playing music locally, but was very realistic when it came to being a “country music star” [and] I had a love for nursing, so I figured that was my best bet. I won a contest to sing with Keith Urban in Raleigh, North Carolina back in 2015 and that’s the moment where I realized that my dreams weren’t too far out-of-reach, so I hit the ground running.

For those who have never heard of you or listened to your music, what song would you recommend that they would listen to that you feel best reflects you as an artist?

If someone has never heard of me, I recommend listening to my new song, “Bad For Me”. It captures my sound perfectly but also my love for songwriting as well.

Looking forward to 2024, what do you have plans for?

2024 is going to be full of new music and more opportunities to come see us on the road!
